The facts were these…

Last night I was stuck in the same quandary that b. had come up against. There was no puking (seriously, you are taking your well being in your hands everytime you eat a hotdog. And was it really cheating? How much actual meat is in a hotdog. I’m not sure hooves and noses count. Ew.), but I did find myself at a bar for dinner. Denise and I met up before the Coldplay show. (free tickets, thanks ABC5 and Twitter!) She already had a basket ‘o onion rings ready when I arrived. No meat, no health benefits! Again with the unhealthy veggies! I perused the menu and the no-meat options pretty much consisted of various fried veggies with ranch. And as much as I’d love to chow on mushroom basket with a side of cheese sticks, I figured it probably wasn’t a very good idea. I love the club sandwich at this particular place, but yeah, turkeys and bacon have moms. Chicken quesadilla minus the chicken it is!

I am obsessed with avocado. I love them. I often eat a mashed up avocado with a little garlic salt for a snack. Heather suggested this great recipe for Curried Mango Avocado Salad. Have you ever messed with a mango before? It’s kind of a pain in the ass. I had no idea what I was doing. There’s a big hard core in the middle that’s impossible to cut around gracefully. Needless to say, there was nothing cubed about my mango. But the salad was delicious. H. recommended loading into a pita pocket, but I forgot buy them, instead I wrapped it up in a tortilla to make a wrap, but that was a disaster and I just ended up eating it with a fork.

The guacamole and pacifico were definitely the highlight. Ole!

For dinner we made Black Bean Burritos. They were okay. The cream cheese was way too heavy, so if you try this recipe I’d say cut it in half. Also, we doubled the recipe thinking it wouldn’t be enough. We were very wrong. The filling is pretty heavy and I barely finished one burrito. So yeah, they were pretty meh. The guacamole and Pacifico totally made up for it though.

The highlight/lowlight of the night was watching the last episode of my beloved Pushing Daises. If you aren’t familiar, much of the action takes place at the Pie Hole, a pie shop. Ned, the swoony piemaker, has a special power. He can bring the dead back to life with one touch…and kill them again with another. It’s whimsical, and dark and so pretty to look at. During season one a very special pie is made…apple pie with guyere cheese crust. Pie plus cheese? Yes please! So I whipped it up and it was divine. As was the series finale. And then I teared up a little. I’ll miss you Pie Hole gang, especially you, Ned. And Olive. And Emerson. And Lily and Vivian. And I’ll miss you a little too, Chuck, but mostly your pretty dresses. I’m linking some clips below…the best episodes are always those in which Olive sings. Now, go rent the dvds. You’ll thank me.
